Water Resource Management

Use of Water Resources

As for use of water resources, in addition to the domestic water used in the office area, most of the water resources are used for the grinding, cutting and tape manufacturing processes. As the extreme climate has occurred more frequently as a result of the climate change, the drought and rainstorm have become a climate risk concern for the operation of a business in recent years. We improve the efficiency of water resources by implementing integration of water resources, recovery of wastewater, saving measures, and emergency response mechanisms to reduce the impact on operating activities caused by unstable water resources.

Water Resource Management and Recycling

The main sources of production wastewater in Chipbond are the wastewater containing silicon powders produced from the production of wafer bumps, grinding and cutting, the washing wastewater produced from the tape production, and the following listed in order: the acidic and alkaline wastewater, organic wastewater, domestic sewage and heavy-metal wastewater. To reduce our dependence on raw water and wastewater drainage, we spare no effort to improve the recycling rate of process water. We adopt the water resource management approaches of designing water-saving processes and performing the recycle of water resources in combination with water footprint management to reduce water resource consumption effectively.

The Results of the Key Water-Saving Initiatives Implemented in 2024
  • The wastewater recycling pipeline improvement project at the grinding process of the Zhanye Plant increased daily treated wastewater capacity by 0.4 ML, reaching a total of 167.531 ML in 2024.
  • The EDI system at the Nanliu Plant introduced a concentrated wastewater recycling system, adding 0.08 ML of dailyprocess water recovery, with a total of 29.2 ML recycled in 2024.
  • All plants regularly clean water systems with membrane pipes and replace unsuitable components to preventreduced water production efficiency and avoid unnecessary water consumption.

This year, we improved the piping for the cutting and grinding processes and implemented concentrated wastewater recycling for the EDI equipment, increasing process water recovery and treatment. The process water recycling rate reached 65.48%, a 19.31% increase from the previous year. Among this, the recycling volume for the cutting and grinding process water system was 716.307 ML, with a recovery rate of 81.11%.

Overall, Chipbond's total water consumption in 2024 was 3,065.036 ML. Due to an increase in product output this year, water usage rose by 20.17% compared to the previous year. Water sources included 1,852.039 ML of tap water, 0.142 ML of groundwater, and 1,212.855 ML of process recycled water.
